Storage systems

Selective Pallet Racking

Describes single or double deep pallets stored on a first-in, first-out basis
Allows for accessibility to any pallet at all times without moving others
Often used when certain SKUs are frequently accessed

Double-Deep Racking

Allows pallets to be stored 2 deep for increased density and capacity
Does require moving 1 pallet to access another
Discuss lift equipment needed like reach trucks

Push-Back Racking

Explains the concept of a gravity-fed "last in, first out" storage
Newer pallets are loaded behind and push forward older pallets
Requires some dedicated storage space for most efficient access

Drive-In/Drive Thru Racking

Allow forklifts or pallet jacks to drive into the rack to place/retrieve pallets
Extremely dense storage, but less selectively accessible
Best for large quantities of uniform products

Pallet Flow Racking

First-in, first-out system using gravity, wheels and slight slope
Continually flow products from back of system to front pick face
Require planned product rotation for efficiency

Carton Flow Rack

Storage of individual cartons/boxes loaded in gravity roller racks
First-in, first-out inventory rotation
Provides carton level accessibility for fast picking

Cantilever Racking

Extending arms from upright frames to support irregularly shaped items
Use for long materials like lumber, pipes, or furniture
Can handle extremely heavy loads with appropriate support arms
